Flourishing is a celebration of Jake Weidmann’s mastery of the calligrapher’s pen, bringing together intricate flourishing, historic letterforms, and imaginative illustration in one richly layered composition.

At the heart of the piece, the word “Flourishing” is rendered in commanding blackletter and surrounded by an extraordinary tapestry of sweeping lines, delicate botanical forms, birds, ribbons, and ornamental details. Each element flows into the next, inviting the eye to wander through a world where letter, line, and image become inseparable.

This artwork was originally created and used to promote the release of Weidmann’s online flourishing course, The Fundamentals of Flourishing, embodying the principles and techniques taught throughout the class. Inspired by the tradition of the great penmen of the past, the piece demonstrates how foundational strokes can develop into increasingly elaborate and expressive forms.

Both a work of fine art and a celebration of the craft Weidmann teaches, Flourishing captures the precision, movement, and limitless possibility of the calligrapher’s pen.
