Alone, a zebra stands out in the Africa landscape, yet together, the stripes of a collective herd serve to confuse and elude its enemies. In breathtaking magnitude, Weidmann explores the theme of power in unification: the impact of many over the independence of one. This is a method that numerous living beings have used physically, mentally, and socially to combat destructive forces for centuries. This tactic is not easily forgotten, nor is the lasting imprint of these vintage forms of flourishing upon the viewer’s vision.
This piece was curated in Denver’s Union Station Crawford Hotel as a permanent installation, July 2014.
