Dwelling Place
This flourishing swallow finds its inspiration from an existing collection of bird flourishes. The first in this series was a piece entitled, ‘Little Sparrow’ -- a messenger of hope (Matthew 10:28-29). Like the sparrow, the flourishing of the wingtips of this humble swallow shows the powerful impact of a single, small life-- but what’s more-- the grand promises bestowed upon her and all who sing for joy in the presence of the living God.
My hope when people view this painting is that they would pause in reverence and find their soul longing for the courts of the Lord; that when they delve into the living Word, they take refuge in the feathers of the Father’s wings: a shelter; a dwelling place. A home in heavenly places.
Psalm 84
How lovely is your dwelling place,
O Lord of hosts!
My soul longs, yes, faints
for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and flesh sing for joy
to the living God.
Even the sparrow finds a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may lay her young,
at your altars, O Lord of hosts,
my King and my God.
Blessed are those who dwell in your house,
ever singing your praise! Selah.
